New York wasn’t able to add any of the starters the club was seeking after, and the Yankees ultimately lost in the ALCS to the Astros, who have a couple of aces at the front end of their rotation. The Yankees general manager spoke to the media Thursday about the season that was, and about what lays ahead. Cashman said the Yankees will “be aggressive” if the right starting pitcher is available in the market.

“We're always aggressive in trying to attack areas that need improvement, and it just comes down to what's available in the marketplace,” Cashman told the press. “And unfortunately, I think as we revisit the summer, those type of players weren't available and obviously weren't moved … And so we'll continue to engage the marketplace, evaluate what's available in the free agent marketplace and then make the phone calls to the 29 other clubs to see what's available in the trade marketplace and then act accordingly. We'll continue to do that dance and see where it takes us, and if there's something available that we seem to be able to match up with and push through on, we'll be aggressive.”
