The sporting event of the year has already started. Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather began a world tour to promote their August 26th clash in Las Vegas. If Conor is going to stand a chance against Floyd. he has to win the battle on the microphone. He is incredible in the octagon but what separated him from Jon Jones, Mighty Mouse Johnson and Anderson Silva is being able to hold the crowd in the palm of his hand and get into his opponent's head. Remember Jose Aldo? He spent weeks promoting about his bout with The Notorious one. It got very personal and made one of the best fighters of all time in Aldo's legacy come crashing down in 13 seconds.
Thus far, Mayweather has been getting the most promotional push back from any opponent since Ricky Hatton. What has been captivating about this event is seeing Mayweather rise to the challenge. He’s eating up the hostile crowd and hanging with McGregor on the mic. He's not winning but few can out talk the slick Irishman. He doesn't have to win the talking game. He just has to not get consumed by Conor's words.  He can't let it change how he fights. He can't want to change what got him to where he was. He can't do what Jose Aldo did.
One thing that is becoming clear. The amount of demand there is for this fight is insane. There was thought that because so many think it will be lopsided, that it couldn't touch the half decade anticipated Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. This press tour is selling out arenas. The fans are going wild without a single punch being thrown. McGregor trash talking with an engaged Floyd Mayweather could actually make this the highest grossing fight of all time.
