INSIDER: There's anger in the air

We are in Las Vegas for the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev. There is an anger in the air from the event's promoters. They tell the crowd, "This is the best fighting the best. Not the circus taking place next month."

The circus they're referring to is Floyd Mayweather's return to the ring against UFC superstar Conor McGregor. It's understandable why they don't want the thunder been taken from their fight week. All anyone can talk about in the sporting world, is an all-time great boxer facing off against an all-time great mixed martial artist,  in the squared circle. Boxing has had a great year. It's been much better than it's pay-per-view rival, the UFC.  Now fans of the sweet science are worried that this so-called "spectacle" will damage all the good that's been done. The truth is, there is nothing to worry about.

If Floyd Mayweather does what everybody expects him to do to McGregor, it will be a showcase for the sweet science. It will show the gap in skills from a lifetime of boxing to a lifetime of MMA. If Conor McGregor is able to land that devastating left-hand and knockout Floyd, we're talking about one of the most shocking outcomes in sports history. Neither result seems bad for a "circus".

This will be a fun night of exposure for two of the finest combat athletes we've been able to watch over the last decade. We shouldn't be guilted into not watching by purists. What they fail to realize is it's okay to enjoy the best fighting the best and it's okay to like a little sideshow, too. Many fight fans can't wait to see Ward vs Kovalev II on June 17, AND can't wait to see UFC 213 in July (stacked card,) AND can't wait for the circus of Mayweather vs McGregor in August, and AND can't wait for GGG vs Canelo in September. If you're a fight fan, this summer is the grand buffet.
