INSIDER: What to Look for in Tonight’s Dolphins Preseason Game?

The Dolphins play the second of four preseason games tonight. What to look for? Well, for Ryan Tannehill to play more than one series and to escape the game healthy. Tannehill was 4-6 for 32 yards in one series in the first preseason game vs Tampa.  I'd like to see him play at least two series tonight. He'll have play without Kenny Stills(ankle) and DeVante Parker(broken finger). This will give Tannehill more time to develop in game chemistry with Albert Wilson, Jakeem Grant and Danny Amendola.

For the first two weeks of training camp, the Dolphins defense dominated the offense. Yet in the Tampa game, the defense looked lost and was just plain lousy. They've had a lot of time to learn from mistakes.  Whether that translates to effective play on the field remains to be seen. I'm very excited to see first rounder Minkah Fitzpatrick and how the Dolphins employ him in various roles in the secondary.

Back to Tannehill for a moment. He was absolutely correct in publicly calling out rookie RB Kalen Ballage last Sunday in training camp. Ballage made a big mental error when he ran through the line rather than block a charging Charles Harris. Had this been a real game where the QBs aren't off limits, Harris would have crushed Tannehill. By sending Ballage out of the huddle and back to the sideline and then walking to the sideline and berating Ballage even more, it's probably a safe bet that Ballage will rarely(or hopefully never) make that same mental error again.

I have rarely seen that side of Tannehill and so when he has those scarce moments of a vocal leader holding his teammates accountable, his leadership will be noticed and followed.
